How I approach your health…
My approach is a little different to some Nutritionists. I don’t preach any particular “fad diet”, nor do I believe that any one particular restrictive eating plan serves us all. We all react differently to the molecules in any given food, based on our genetics, our metabolism, our microbiome and our emotional state.
For example, a Ketogenic diet may work wonders for one individual with the objective of fat loss and improved blood sugar control, yet in another individual the higher percentage of fat (to carbs) may drive their “ApoB” levels through the roof (“ApoB”, or Apolipoprotein B, is a measure of the number of atherogenic particles in the blood), greatly increasing their risk for ASCVD (Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular disease). How can we know this unless we baseline test these parameters before commencing a new eating pattern, ensuring it is safe and beneficial?
We all have agency over our lives, but sometimes we need a little help. Just as we may hire a financial planner to help us figure out our long-term financial goals, my role is to help you figure out what foods work for your body and your health goals. And more importantly, how we can establish compliance. The best eating plan in the world is useless if it’s not sustainable.
First we need to look at your objectives, and then we can create a strategy with your long-term goals in mind. Then we get tactical within the realms of nutrition, sleep, exercise, emotional health and supplements (be it nutritional, hormonal or prescription from your GP). I will help curate your own personalised wellness regime with highly trained expertise and attention to detail. This longevity-focused wellness service is designed specifically for people who are looking for guidance through their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. I prefer to work alongside your primary care physician (GP) to ensure optimal outcomes for your health and create cohesion, not confusion.
How we will work together…
We start with a simple email enquiry to see if I am the right fit for your needs.
Then once your booking has been confirmed, and your $250 deposit has been paid, you will receive a health assessment questionnaire that needs to be completed before we have our initial consultation. This helps me prepare so that we can maximise our time together.
Your initial session will entail a 60-minute online consultation where we will address your “objectives” - your health and wellness goals, as well as discussing your health assessment questionnaire that I will have reviewed prior to our session.
Depending on your goals, I may ask that you invest in (if you haven’t already) a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) that you will wear for 10 days at the start of the program. I will provide with the link to purchase this (at an additional cost of about NZD$89). The data we receive from this small device (worn on the back of your upper arm) about your metabolic health is critical for planning your long-term health strategy.
I will likely recommend relevant blood tests to make a deeper assessment. Some of these blood tests are funded via referral from your General Practitioner and we can work together if you are happy to proceed this way. Alternatively, we can request blood tests independently at an additional cost. If you have had any recent relevant blood tests within 3 months of our first consultation, they may suffice.
If you wish to incorporate NutriGenetic testing (additional cost starting from NZD$589), I’ll ensure you know how to provide the blood sample correctly and send it away for testing (all provided in the test kit). Epigenetic tests usually take 3-4 weeks for results to come through.
About 2 weeks after our initial consultation, after I have reviewed the CGM data and/or any blood test results, we’ll set up our next 60-minute consultation online where we will discuss the “strategy”. This is when I will explain through a holistic lens where your body is currently at. This will also provide you with an opportunity to ask questions about CGM data and/or blood test results. Please note that Epigenetic testing results take longer, so this appointment may be pushed back until these results have come in and I have had time to interpret them for you.
Following this, it will take me about 7-10 days to formulate a treatment protocol that addresses both your health and wellness goals tailored to your bio-individuality. This is the “tactical” element of the program. I’ll plan your diet, supplements and lifestyle recommendations, which I will email to you once completed.
You will have up to an additional 60 minutes of email access to me during this period. However, if a new issue arises, or my time responding exceeds this, I will recommend another online session at an additional cost (see below).
6 weeks later we will meet again online for another 60-minute consultation where we will assess how you are feeling and what is working for you and what isn’t. This program is about sustainability, so it may require on-going tweaking and adjustments to suit your lifestyle and wellness goals. This is not about a quick fix.
There is never any judgement, nor deprivation, in my recommendations. My intent is to ensure that the foods you’re eating and your exercise regime serve your health and wellbeing, and your future goals.
And most importantly, I limit my client base so that you receive truly personalised attention.
This program includes 3 x online sessions, email access, and the “behind the scenes” work that I do to deeply understand your current health and provide precision nutritional guidance. The cost of this comprehensive program is NZD$1,950 (excluding all testing and/or a CGM).
All on-going and/or extra consultations are NZD$250 per hour.
